Can you fly a drone at Konterra Model Airpark?
Konterra Model Airpark (Free State Aeromodelers)
A radio-control club field near Laurel, between Washington and Baltimore, that welcomes all types of aircraft, including drones. It’s at 6050 Van Dusen Road, Laurel. The entrance is locked and opens only when members are there, so visit on a calm, sunny weekend or after 5pm on weekdays. Pilots need Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) membership; guests with AMA membership can fly free for three visits, then join the club, and need a member sponsor present and a check by the safety officer or field marshal. Fly only in the club’s marked areas, which include rotorcraft and hover zones, and never over the pits, parking, Van Dusen Road or I-95. The field is about 15 nautical miles from Reagan National, right around the edge of the D.C. no-drone zone, so check B4UFLY and ask the club about airspace before you fly. Monthly meetings are the second Tuesday at 7:30pm at the field and open to the public.
