Can you fly a drone at the South Carroll Aeromodelers field?
South Carroll Aeromodelers field (Sykesville)
Drones are welcome at this South Carroll Aeromodelers (SCA) club field on the grounds of Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville, but no recording or filming is allowed, per the hospital; never film the building behind the flight line, which houses patients. The field is behind the Hitchman Building at 6951 Fourth Street: take Fourth Street east to the next stop sign, turn right and follow the dirt access road south. The club permits all forms of piloting that comply with AMA rules, including multirotor drones, which fly at separate times from fixed-wing planes; FPV pilots must have a spotter. Guests must be AMA members and fly under a club member’s supervision, so message the club through its website before you go. Have your FAA registration and, for recreational pilots, your TRUST certificate ready to show. No pets or smoking anywhere on the hospital grounds, stay out of the pits, and never fly behind the flight line. Fuel-powered planes can’t fly before 10am on weekends and holidays; electric aircraft are exempt. Spectators are welcome, and the club meets at the field at noon on the first Saturday of each month, April through October. Check B4UFLY for airspace before you fly.
